Wallingford Winners

Pangbourne College got off to winning start to the 2012 rowing season, at the first Long
Distance event at Wallingford on Saturday. In very unseasonal blistering sun,
an astonishing 561 scullers and sculling crews raced over the 4250m upstream
course.

In the morning division, the College’s silver medal (at the British Championships) J16
double went one better winning not only J16, but beating the J18 crews too,
finishing and astonishing 3rd overall. Nicolo Forcellini won Novice
sculls by a handsome margin too, giving the College 2 unexpected wins at this
prestigious event.

In the afternoon division, the J16 double combined with Nicolo and Josh Rogers to race
a J18 quad against 5 other top school crews. Agonisingly, they finished second
by 0.1 second (race time of 15 minutes and 27 seconds) to the St Pauls School
crew, beating Shiplake, Abingdon, St George’s and Windsor Boys crews in the
process.

The highlight of the day was the very unexpected success for the 2 girl scullers. In the
morning division, Georgia Misson came 5th in the senior event she raced
in, but her time of 20.01 turned out to be the fastest Junior girls time of the
day, beating 130 other girl scullers. As most of the top 20/30 are GB
candidates, this was a wonderfully unexpected result. With one of her training
partners Georgia Francis finishing a very creditable 12th overall,
this was a splendid result for the College girl rowers.
