Five Pangbourne College Boat Club crews did exceptionally well at this year’s 2-day Ghent International May Regatta.
The boys’ top four of George Pearce, Will Broom, Ben Maxwell and Lars Koenig won Gold in the Junior Men’s Coxless Fours on Saturday and Gold in the Junior Men’s 18 Coxed Fours, with Thea Swan as cox, on Sunday. Another boys’ four of Michael Border, David Morgan, George Pearce and Will Broom (stoke), with Thea Swan (cox), won Gold in Junior Coxed Fours on Saturday.
The Pangbourne boys’ eight of Lionel Gulich, David Morgan, Michael Border, Jack Wood, George Pearce, Will Broom, Ben Maxwell and Lars Koenig (stroke), with cox Thea Swan, won Gold in the Junior Men’s VIIIs on Saturday and Silver on Sunday. The boys’ top pair of Ben Maxwell and Lars Koenig won Gold in both the Junior Men’s Coxless Pairs on Saturday and Junior Men’s 18 Coxless Pairs on Sunday.
The girls’ top four of Laura Webb, Georgia Francis, Shannon Webb and Isabel Metcalfe won Silver in the Women’s Coxless IV on Saturday, but illness to one of the crew meant that they could not race again and try to go one better on Sunday.
Mr Woodcock said, ‘With only a fortnight to go to the National Schools’ Regatta, for the most senior boys’ and girls’ crews, Ghent International May Regatta offered a good opportunity for some competitive side by side multi-lane racing. The highlight of the boys’ weekend was beating Belgian J18 squad crew in both coxless fours and coxless pairs. On the sculling front, Georgia Francis also did well in winning her heat then taking third place in the Senior Women’s Sculls’ final.’
