With the Olympic lake at Dorney hosting a World Cup regatta next weekend, Marlow Regatta, sharing the same venue, was brought forward a week.
On Saturday the boys’ first four put themselves through a gruelling schedule of five 2000 metre races, with three of these within an hour and a half. In Senior coxless fours they faced many of the club crews competing for the Wyfold Challenge Cup at Henley but drew the worst lane in their heat in a strong cross-wind. They did well to be placed fourth and reach the repechage, which they won in a very exciting race in which the lead changed hands several times. They had earlier teamed up with the rest of the 1st VIII in Intermediate 1 eights, an event containing two Championship medallist eights from the National Schools and the fourth placed crew. A strong row had taken them straight to the final but both this and the fours final did not see them at their best, the racing timetable almost causing them to miss both races.
