After an Overnight leave, five eights from Pangbourne College Boat Club made their way to London to compete in the School’s Head of the River Race. Using British Rowing Headquarters as our base, it was a team effort to unload and rig the boats ready to go.
Racing in the new Filippi 8+, which had been kindly donated by the members of the Princess Elizabeth winning crew of 1963, the boys 1st VIII came 4th in their category, only 2 seconds behind 3rd place and 19th overall. Going off #65th, the boys 2nd VIII had a good row to come 14th in their category, with their overall placing putting them above a few 1st VIII crews! The boys 3rd VIII came 9th in their category, 179th overall. The J15 boys VIII made their tideway debut, competing in their longest ever race to come 18th in their category. The girls 1st VII started near the back of the pack in the CHG8+ event and had an exciting row with several overtakes to come 9th in their category. With some American crews entered, the girls were the 7th British crew and matched the boys 3rd VIII to come 179th overall.
A big well done to all of the rowers representing the college in a professional manner amongst other schools and junior clubs.
