Evesham Regatta Results

With the first minibus leaving college at a bright and early 0545, and the last not returning until 2130 it was a long but successful day at Evesham Regatta. Raced over 1000m with a staggered start and finish, Pangbourne had 22 entries competing in a variety of events. There were some great races; 12 Pangbourne crews made it into finals with 4 of these being all-Pangbourne finals and finishing with an impressive 9 wins.

First up for the College was Felix in J15 1x. Having won at Birmingham Regatta the week before, he was now in a bigger pond with 16 other scullers competing for the win. After rowing through his opposition in his first three races, he couldn’t quite overhaul the sculler from Huntingdon in the final.

Next up were two boys coxed fours (IM3 4+). With both crews safely through their first rounds, beating two different crews from Warwick BC, it was a strong crew from RGS Worcester that halted the B four in the semi and the A four in the final by a length.

Captain of Boys’ Boats, Luke Towers returned to ‘home water’ having rowed for Evesham RC as a youngster. This advantage paid off and saw himself and Andrin sail through their three races and win the IM3 event in style with an easily verdict. Fellow senior boys Felix L and Rory won their singles events with commanding wins in J18 and J17 1x.

Novice 1x saw an all Pangbourne final with Hector and Tom P both cruising through their first two rounds. Neck and neck in the final, Tom decided to make it even more interesting by capsizing! Well done to Hector for losing his novice sculling status.

Finishing off the morning division were the girls; first up was the WJ16 2x racing in an adult category (WIM3 2x).  Their rapid start sent them careering into the opposition and therefore the umpire disqualified them. The senior girls split into two WIM3 coxed fours and, with super sub Ellen on board, raced their way into the final. Drawn against an adult crew from Warwick BC, the schoolgirls gave them a run for their money and narrowly lost out by a canvas – the smallest margin of the morning!

Afternoon racing saw more sculling and more all-Pangbourne finals with Rory and Andrin in a head-to-head in IM3 1x final. Bowball to bowball, Andrin managed to sneak ahead and win the event by 2/3L. The J18 2x final saw Jack & Felix win over Luke & Hector in another narrow margin of just a canvas! Great racing! Tom P teamed up with Callum in a novice double and won the event comfortably beating a crew from Hollowell Scullers.

The girls joined together from the mornings racing and competed in WIM3 8+. The seniors, with super sub Ellen and Old Pangbournian Livvie coxing, saw off two crews from Pengwern BC and won the event with a very impressive easily verdict.

The J15 boys raced up a year and in two J16 coxed fours. With both crews seeing off crews from Stratford-upon-Avon, they met each other in the final. A win for Pangbourne College and bragging rights for the victors!

Well done to everyone who raced and congratulations to the winners – (Andrin and Felix L for two pots!). A big thank you to parents, friends and families who came to support.
